Personal Growth in Sigma Kappa

Each Sigma Kappa embraces personal growth in her own unique way. It is the ongoing determination to keep developing yourself as an individual and the skills and lessons you learn in college and beyond, as each young woman leaves chapter to take her place in the world. Below, you can learn about our active sisters and alumnae who found themselves in new heights because of Sigma Kappa.

Ashley Altstadt, Fall '09, Alumnae.

"Throughout my years as a Sigma Kappa, I not only made lifelong friends, but also grew professionally. Being in a sorority taught me the value of time management, networking and communication; three skills that are absolutely vital to my career in the fashion industry. I also learned how to become a mature, professional woman, and to always represent myself in the best light possible. Because of Sigma Kappa, I found close friends within my major who would eventually open doors for me in the fashion industry. This brought me internship opportunities and helped me get the dream job that I have today. Sigma Kappa truly brought me my career because of all of the valuable skills and the sisters who helped me along the way."

Ashley is currently an International Sales Assistant with Joie, Current/Elliott and Equipment.

Megan Vallely, Fall '13.

"The support that my sisters give me every day has helped me grow into the person I am today. Since I joined Sigma Kappa I have not only gained confidence in myself and came out of my shell, but also learned time management skills, professional skills, and I learned what I want to do for my future career. When I first came to college, I was shy and nervous about being on my own for the first time, but once I ran home to Sigma Kappa I could already feel the love. I reached out of my comfort zone and went to every event, met my best friends (and future bridesmaids), and also gained my perfect Greek family. I also have held 2 Executive Council positions which I never thought I ever would've done, but having the encouragement from my sisters helped me get through the tough times and the good. Sigma Kappa truly is my home away from home and I am so so thankful everyday for it!"

Gabriella Dheming, Fall '13.

"When I came to college, I never imagined I would join a sorority. I thought that a sorority would never benefit me in the future. In my first year, I was stubborn. I didn't want to change my major, I didn't want to join anything new, I didn't want to make friends, and overall, I just didn't want to like CPP. It wasn't until I decided to go Greek in my second year that I realized that my attitude needed some changing. I realized that it was up to me to find people and resources that would help me grow and blossom in college.

Through Sigma Kappa, I've learned to take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way with a positive mindset. Being part of something bigger than myself made me realize that I have potential. I have the ability to better myself and to enable others to do their best, too. As a fourth year, I can now confidently say that I love my school, the people I've met, and the leadership roles both on and off campus that I hold. If someone told me a couple years ago that I would be where I am now, I would've called them crazy. But the reality is that now I can go into a situation with my best foot forward while being my own cheerleader. This sorority has not only given me many opportunities in college, but it has ultimately given me the confidence to take them."
