Service with Sigma Kappa

Service and philanthropy is extremely important to each of our sisters. Sigma Kappa has adopted three national philanthropies and we work to support these three philanthropies every year. Giving back to the community is a core value to every Sigma Kappa. Click here to see our national page on philanthropy.

Alzheimer's Research

Alzheimer's is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States, and nearly 2/3rds of Americans with Alzheimer's are women. It is the only leading cause of death in America that, as of yet, can't be cured or slowed.

Our sisters regularly participate in walks (such as the Walk to End Alz, pictured above) and host fundraisers to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's research.

Inherit the Earth

Sigma Kappa is devoted to protecting and improving the environment. Every person has a responsibility to take care of this world, for ourselves and for the generations that will follow us.

Inherit the Earth is a national project that provides the opportunity for sisters and local citizens to work together to improve our environment.

We recently adopted a stretch of Huntington Beach and often host beach clean-ups inviting all members of the Panhellenic community.

MS Walk

Every year we walk as a chapter in the local MS Walk. We walk for the team Steps for Stephanie, which is in honor of our alumna, Stephanie Heller who was diagnosed with Multiple Schlerosis during college. We had the pleasure of meeting her in 2015 and she is so sweet and such an inspiration!

Maine Seacoast Mission

In 1918, the Maine Seacoast Mission was chosen as Sigma Kappa's first national philanthropy, in honor of our founding in Maine. Sigma Kappas help to provide funds to the mission program, which supports the smaller islands off the coast of Maine.

The mission program provides scholarships, a Christmas program, and emergency relief. The islands off the coast of Maine become isolated in the winter and are dependent upon the mission program for survival.

Children's Center on Campus

We volunteer at the Children's Center by reading to the children and donating books for their preschool. Although we only do a small amount now, we want to continue to volunteer more in the future!
